About
A. Donald McEachin was a Democratic U.S. Representative for Virginia's 4th Congressional District . Born on October 10, 1961, in Nuremberg, Germany, to an Army officer and schoolteacher, he lived in Vicenza, Italy, before settling in Virginia. He co-founded the law firm McEachin & Gee in Richmond and served in the Virginia House of Delegates , the Virginia State Senate, and Congress from 2017 until his death on November 28, 2022, at age 61 from colorectal cancer treatment effects. Notable achievements include championing gun control, closing substandard landfills, creating the Offshore Wind Development Authority, co-founding the United for Climate and Environmental Justice Congressional Task Force, and advocating for the Environmental Justice for All Act, indigent aid, environmental protection, health care access, and military workforce issues. He was the first Black major-party nominee for Virginia Attorney General in 2001.
