Aaron D. Ford (11)

Aaron D. Ford is a Democratic politician and attorney serving as Nevada's 34th Attorney General since January 7, 2019, making him the first African American to hold statewide constitutional office in the state. Previously, he represented Senate District 11 in the Nevada State Senate from 2013 onward, where he served as Majority Leader , Minority Leader , and Assistant Majority Whip . Born on May 24, 1972, in Dallas, Texas, Ford overcame early hardships, including time on food stamps as a single father at age 21, before becoming a public school math teacher, private practice attorney , and state leader.

Education and Political Experience

• Education: Earned five degrees—B.A. from Texas A&M University; M.A. from George Washington University; M.A., J.D., and Ph.D. in education from Ohio State University.
• Political Experience: Elected to Nevada Senate District 11 in 2012 ; chaired Senate Committee on Natural Resources ; vice chair of Senate Committee on Education; member of Judiciary Committee. As Senate Majority Leader, led passage of police body camera legislation, helped create a Conviction Integrity Unit, raised pay for state police and public employees, expanded collective bargaining rights, balanced the state budget, and diversified the economy.
• Notable Achievements as Attorney General: Secured over $1.1 billion in opioid crisis settlements and $85 million in consumer protections; led testing of nearly 8,000 untested sexual assault kits; hosted summits on human trafficking; prosecuted corporate landlords, predatory lenders, fentanyl traffickers, and insurance companies; protected reproductive rights and challenged federal policies. Recognized as best Senate Freshman , Senator of the Year , and multiple "Rising Star" awards.
