Abdullah Hammoud
Abdullah Hammoud is a Democratic politician from Dearborn, Michigan. Born on March 19, 1990, he is the son of immigrant parents and was born and raised in Dearborn, where he has dedicated over a decade to public service. As the seventh mayor of Dearborn, Hammoud has been an unwavering advocate for his hometown, focusing on inclusive and prosperous community development.
Education
Hammoud is a three-time graduate of the University of Michigan system. He earned a bachelor's degree in science from the University of Michigan-Dearborn and holds master's degrees in both public health from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor and business administration. He is also a product of the Dearborn Public School system.
Political Experience
Hammoud served in the Michigan House of Representatives representing the 15th District as a Democratic member. Prior to his legislative career, he worked as a healthcare consultant and served as a healthcare advisor for Henry Ford Health System and Health Alliance Plan. He also volunteered with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency.
During his time in the state legislature, Hammoud championed initiatives focused on civil rights, health policy, environmental protection, K-12 college and career readiness, healthcare access, and economic development. In 2014, he was elected as the youngest board member for the Michigan League of Conservation Voters, where he worked to protect Michigan's land, air, and water.
In November 2021, Hammoud was elected Mayor of Dearborn. As mayor, he has made historic investments in public parks, instituted public health in all policies, prioritized economic development and public safety, and improved government service delivery to over 100,000 residents.
