About
Adam R. Young
Adam Ryan Young is a Democratic politician from West Virginia who served in the state legislature. He represented District 41 in the West Virginia House of Delegates from 2012 to 2014.
Education and Political Experience
Young has worked as a social studies teacher at Nicholas County High School since 2007, combining his career in education with public service.
During his tenure in the House of Delegates, Young made a significant legislative contribution by cosponsoring House Joint Resolution 108, titled the "Nonprofit Youth Organization Tax Exempt Support Amendment." This proposal sought to amend the West Virginia Constitution to provide tax exemptions for nonprofit youth organizations focused on adventure, education, or recreation. The amendment specifically allowed such organizations to lease or rent their facilities without paying property taxes, provided the facilities cost at least $100 million.
The amendment was approved by voters on November 4, 2014, becoming the first amendment to West Virginia's constitution in approximately ten years. The measure was notably written to benefit the Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve of the Boy Scouts of America.
