He succeeded the late Senator Dianne Feinstein. Prior to his Senate tenure, Schiff represented California's 30th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2001 to 2024. He is renowned for his role as the lead prosecutor in the first impeachment trial of President Donald Trump.
