Adrian Kar-Tsing Tam is a Democratic member of the Hawaii House of Representatives representing District 22 . He is the only openly gay member of the Hawaii State Legislature and a member of the Progressive Legislative Caucus. Notable achievements include defeating incumbent Tom Brower in the 2020 Democratic primary and Republican Nicholas Ochs in the general election; securing over $70 million in Capital Improvement Projects in his first year; authoring bills on tax transparency and homeless minors; passing resolutions on land use, illegal robocalls, and noise pollution; leading the House response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine as Vice-Chair of Culture, Arts, & International Affairs; serving as interim Chair of the Democratic Party of Hawaii ; and co-passing SB 1571 in 2025 to reform the Hawaii Tourism Authority. Current positions include Chair of the House Committee on Tourism, Vice-Chair of Health, Human Services, & Homelessness, member of the House Finance Committee, and member of the House Committee on Economic Development and Technology.

Education and Political Experience

  • Education: Born and raised in Honolulu, graduated from Kalani High School; bachelor's degree from Pennsylvania State University.
  • Early Career: Worked in the Hawaii Senate for Senator Stanley Chang, contributing to laws on Section 8 insurance, State Youth Commission, and a ban on conversion therapy for minors; involved in housing, education, public health, homelessness, and public safety legislation. Holds a real estate license in Hawaii; board member of Young Progressives Demanding Action; member of Waikiki Lions Club; former vice-president of Taiwanese American Professionals; served in multiple capacities for the Hawaii Democratic Party.
