Senator Alan C Bates

Alan Curtis Bates was born on March 17, 1945, in Seattle, Washington. He was an American osteopathic physician and Democratic politician from Oregon who dedicated his career to both medicine and public service. Bates resided in Ashland, Oregon, and was married to Laurie, with whom he had five children: Kim, Krista, Keri, Curtis, and Samantha Tipler.

Bates passed away on August 5, 2016, at the age of 71, while on a fishing trip with his son in Rogue River, Oregon.

Education

Bates attended Central Washington University and Kansas City University, where he earned his degree in Osteopathic Medicine.

Political Experience

Bates served in the Oregon State Legislature for 16 years as a Democratic politician. He initially represented his district in the Oregon House of Representatives from 2000 through 2004. He was subsequently elected to the Oregon State Senate, where he represented the 3rd District from January 2005 until his death in August 2016.

Throughout his tenure, Bates brought his physician's perspective and deep commitment to Oregon to his legislative work, serving as a respected voice in state politics.
