About
Alex Bores is a Democratic Assemblymember representing New York's 73rd District, which includes Murray Hill, Turtle Bay, Sutton Place, Midtown East, and the Upper East Side. A fifth-generation New Yorker born and raised in and around the district, he lives on the Upper East Side with his wife, Darya. First elected in 2022, he is the first Democrat in New York at any level with a computer science degree and serves on the National Task Force on State AI Policy. In his first term, he passed legislation to raise fines on telemarketers, protect employees' intellectual property on inventions, require moped registration at sale, and encourage state agencies to adopt cloud computing. He also advanced bills on "smart guns," creating new judicial seats by overturning a 1846 Constitutional provision, and introduced over half a dozen AI-related bills.
Education and Political Experience
Bores earned a bachelor's degree from Cornell University in 2013 and a master's degree in computer science from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2020. Before entering politics, he worked as an engineer, including at Palantir for four years, assisting the Department of Justice and Manhattan district attorneys in solving violent crimes, building software for COVID relief programs aiding 50,000 families, and advocating for severance pay, rent regulation, government procurement reform, and adding NYC's aerial tram to Google Maps.
