About
Allen Buansi is a Democratic member of the North Carolina House of Representatives, serving District 56 since June 2022. This district covers parts of Orange County, including Chapel Hill and Carrboro. Born and raised in Chapel Hill to Ghanaian immigrant parents, he is a civil rights attorney committed to public education, environmental justice, accessible healthcare, and equity-centered policies. Notable achievements include establishing Chapel Hill's first Criminal Justice Debt Program and a Resolution on Reimagining Community Safety during his town council tenure, as well as advocating for teacher salaries, renewable energy, and public health funding in the General Assembly. He currently serves as Democratic Freshman Caucus Co-Chair.

- Education: Bachelor's degree from Dartmouth College ; Juris Doctor from the University of North Carolina School of Law .
- Professional Experience: Worked as an attorney in North Carolina's Department of Justice on opioid crisis initiatives; served as attorney and Deputy Director at the UNC Center for Civil Rights, advocating for public schools, clean water, and air.
