About

Allison Ikley-Freeman

Political Party: Democratic

District: Oklahoma State Senate District 37

Allison Ikley-Freeman is a Democratic state senator from Tulsa, Oklahoma. She made history as a 26-year-old first-time candidate when she flipped Oklahoma State Senate District 37 in a special election by just 31 votes—the first Democratic victory in that district since 1996.

Since 2015, she has worked as a school and community-based therapist, including several years with Counseling and Recovery Services of Oklahoma. Prior to her mental health career, she worked for the Oklahoma Department of Human Services as a child welfare specialist. Early in her working life, she was employed at Sonic Drive-In as a carhop and assistant manager.

Education

Ikley-Freeman earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Oklahoma State University in 2013. She subsequently completed a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Northeastern State University.

Political Experience

Ikley-Freeman represents Oklahoma State Senate District 37 and is running for re-election. Her victory in the special election was notable given her youth, her inexperience in electoral politics at the time of her first campaign, and the conservative political leanings of Oklahoma.
