Amy Carter is an American politician and educator who served as a Republican member of the Georgia House of Representatives for District 175 from 2007 until her resignation on December 31, 2017. District 175 includes Brooks County and parts of Lowndes County and Thomas County in South Georgia. Originally elected as a Democrat, she switched to the Republican Party during her tenure. She resigned to become executive director of Advancement at the Technical College System of Georgia, later serving as Deputy Commissioner for Rural Georgia Initiatives at the Georgia Department of Economic Development and Special Assistant to the President at Southern Regional Technical College.

Notable achievements include serving as Floor Leader for Governor Nathan Deal, Chairman of Governmental Affairs, and Chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on General Government. She chaired the Governor’s Teacher Advisory Commission in 2016, sponsored the Music Investment Act of 2017, and contributed to Georgia HOPE scholarship revisions. Carter received awards such as Valdosta Woman of the Year , Brooks County Woman of the Year , the inaugural Leadership Georgia Dale Threadgill Community Service Award , and the 2011-12 Liberty Bell Award from the Valdosta Bar Association. She is an alumna of Leadership Lowndes and Leadership Georgia, and serves as a Trustee of Leadership Georgia.
