Amy H. Handlin
Amy H. Handlin is a Republican politician from New Jersey who was born on January 28, 1956, in Neptune, New Jersey. She is Jewish and resides in Middletown Township with her husband David. They have two children: son Daniel and daughter Rebecca.
Handlin grew up in a small rural Jewish community in Monmouth County, New Jersey, where her father and uncle operated a poultry-breeding enterprise. Throughout her career, she has been actively involved in civic and community organizations, serving on the boards of the New Jersey League of Women Voters, the American Association of University Women, and numerous other public health and community organizations.
Education
Handlin holds an impressive academic background:
- Bachelor of Arts in History from Harvard University
- Master of Business Administration in Business Administration from Columbia University
- Ph.D. in Marketing from New York University
She has also served as an Associate Professor of Marketing and International Business at Monmouth University since 1998.
Political Experience
Handlin's political career spans multiple levels of government:
- Deputy Mayor and Township Committeewoman, Middletown Township
- Monmouth County Board of Freeholders , elected in 1989 and re-elected in 1992, 1995, 1998, 2001, and 2004

She was also a former Commissioner on the New Jersey Commission on Higher Education and served on the Financial Institutions and Insurance Committee.
Handlin is the author of "Whatever Happened to the Year of the Woman? Why Women Still Aren't Making It to the Top in Politics" and has been a columnist for New Jersey Reporter. She has received numerous awards including the Legislative Award from the New Jersey Environmental Federation and the Rose and Scroll Award from the New Jersey Association of Women Business Owners.
