Andrea Hunley (46)

Andrea Hunley is a Democratic state senator representing Indiana Senate District 46, which includes portions of Indianapolis such as downtown, Irvington, Fountain Square, Garfield Park, Warren Park, and parts of Center, Wayne, Warren, and Perry townships. Elected in 2022, she serves as Assistant Minority Leader for the Senate Democratic Caucus and sits on committees including Utilities, Commerce & Technology; Education; Pensions & Labor; Tax & Fiscal Policy; Ethics; and Rules. A lifelong Hoosier originally from Fort Wayne, she was in the foster care system and adopted young, fueling her priority to support vulnerable children and families. She is passionate about legislation impacting health, wealth, and communities generationally. Hunley lives on Indianapolis's Near Eastside with her husband Ryan , and their two school-aged children; they enjoy biking, art, and music events.

Notable achievements include: Legislator of the Year ; Politician of the Year ; Public Education Advocacy award ; Community Impact Award ; Legislative Conservation Champion ; Chaplain, Indiana Black Legislative Caucus; 2023 Bowhay Fellow ; Hoosier Women Forward Class 2 Alumni; and Stanley K. Education and Political Experience

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education and Master’s Degree in Language Education from Indiana University; holds PK-12 School Administrator license, middle/high school English teaching license, and English as a New Language license.
• Political Experience: Elected to Indiana State Senate in 2022; previously a public school educator for two decades, teaching English at a large Indianapolis high school and serving 10 years as principal of an award-winning K-8 school.
