Andrea Romero (46)

Andrea Romero is a Democratic member of the New Mexico House of Representatives, representing District 46 in Santa Fe County since January 15, 2019, after defeating incumbent Carl Trujillo. Born and raised in Northern New Mexico communities including Santa Fe, Española, Chimayo, La Mesilla, and Nambe, she comes from a family with deep roots in the region; her father was the first to graduate college and became an engineer at Sandia National Laboratory, and her mother worked in construction. She has two brothers: one a veteran in the private sector and the other a New Mexico State Police officer. A progressive Democrat, Romero advocates for gun safety , climate action, cannabis legalization and expungement, abortion and transgender rights, immigrant rights, and support for survivors of sexual violence. Notable achievements include sponsoring cannabis expungement laws and co-sponsoring recreational legalization in a 2021 special session, as well as sponsoring a 2022 ban on assault weapons and gun waiting periods. She currently serves as Chair of House Rules and Order of Business , Vice Chair of House Judiciary, and member of Consumer and Public Affairs and Taxation and Revenue committees.

• Professional and Community Roles: Entrepreneur and lawyer; CEO/Founder of Tummi Yummi and Tall Foods ; TEDx speaker ; Executive Director, MIX Santa Fe and Regional Coalition of Los Alamos National Laboratory Communities ; various board roles including Santa Fe Chamber of Commerce, Santa Fe Green Chamber, and Sustainable Santa Fe Commission.
