Andrew "Andy" Nuñez is a former Republican member of the New Mexico House of Representatives representing District 36 . A farmer from Hatch, New Mexico, he served multiple terms in the state house, initially as a Democrat from 2001, switching to Independent in 2011 before losing reelection, then returning as a Republican in 2015 until defeated in 2016. He has been appointed Mayor of the Village of Hatch since 2013. Notable achievements include his military service as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps , directing the USDA Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service , and leadership roles such as former Vice Chair of the Agriculture, Water & Wildlife Committee, member of the South Central Council of Government , and involvement in organizations like the American Farm Bureau and New Mexico Farm and Livestock Bureau.
