Angelo J. Morinello
Angelo J. Morinello is a Republican assemblymember representing the 145th District of the New York State Assembly, which includes Niagara Falls, North Tonawanda, and Lewiston in Erie and Niagara counties. He was elected on November 8, 2016, and sworn into office on January 1, 2017.
A lifelong resident of Western New York, Morinello is a Vietnam War veteran who served as a combat soldier. He is a retired judge and has been active in advocating for ethics reform in state government, particularly through legislation aimed at implementing term limits for legislative leadership positions and restricting campaign contributions from entities awarded state contracts.
Education and Professional Background
Morinello earned a law degree and worked as an attorney in business law. His legal career includes several notable positions: he served as in-house counsel for his family's business, Certo Brothers Distributing Company; worked as an assistant Nassau County district attorney; and served as counsel to Niagara Falls Community Development. Most significantly, he served as Niagara Falls City Court Judge from 2001 to 2015 before retiring from the bench.
Political Experience
In the New York State Assembly, Morinello has held several leadership roles, including Chair of the Steering Committee , Deputy Republican Whip , and Assistant Republican Leader . He serves on multiple committees including the Committee on Codes, Committee on Economic Development, Job Creation, Commerce and Industry, Committee on Labor, Committee on Tourism, Parks, Arts and Sports Development, and Committee on Veterans' Affairs.
He is also registered with the Independent and Conservative party lines in addition to the Republican Party.
