About

Ann Johnson Stewart is a Democratic-Farmer-Labor member of the Minnesota Senate representing District 45, which includes communities such as Minnetonka, Mound, Orono, Minnetrista, Shorewood, Wayzata, Deephaven, Excelsior, Spring Park, Tonka Bay, Woodland, Saint Bonifacius, Minnetonka Beach, Long Lake, and Greenwood in Hennepin County. A 30-year resident of Minnetonka, she grew up in Wausau, Wisconsin, and lives with her husband, four children, and three grandchildren. She is a member of Wayzata Community Church. Notable achievements include founding and owning a professional engineering services company for nearly three decades, managing hundreds of millions of dollars in Minnesota infrastructure projects, and co-founding the Reproductive Freedom Caucus in the Minnesota Senate. Her special legislative concerns focus on transportation, infrastructure, education, and the environment. She serves as Vice Chair of the Transportation Committee and on the Capital Investment, State and Local Government, and Environment, Climate and Legacy Committees.

Education and Political Experience

  • Education: Earned a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville in 1986 and a Master of Civil Engineering in pavement engineering from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities in 1994. She teaches at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, Dunwoody Institute, and local technical colleges.
  • Political Experience: Elected to the Minnesota Senate in 2020 for District 44 , re-elected in 2024 for District 45 . Announced she would not seek reelection in 2022 but returned for the subsequent term.
