About
Anthony J. Albence serves as the State Election Commissioner for Delaware, a nonpartisan position overseeing the state's elections operations, including voter registration, fair and impartial elections, polling places, absentee voting, and early voting. Nominated by Governor John Carney in June 2019 to replace Elaine Manlove, he was confirmed for a four-year term ending June 30, 2028. Prior to this role, Albence worked since 2007 as County Director at the Delaware Department of Elections in New Castle County, managing staff, operations, policy coordination, and community outreach. His earlier career included serving as Director of Public Allies Delaware and as a training specialist at Catholic Youth Ministry in Wilmington. In 2025, the U.S. Department of Justice sued Delaware and Albence in his official capacity over alleged noncompliance with the National Voter Registration Act and Help America Vote Act , following his refusal to provide requested voter records.
