Bart M. Davis
Bart McKay Davis was born on March 7, 1955, in Rapid City, South Dakota, and was raised in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He is a prominent Republican politician and attorney who has held significant positions in Idaho state government and federal law enforcement. Davis is married and has six children and 14 grandchildren.
Education
Davis graduated from Brigham Young University in 1978 and earned his law degree from the University of Idaho College of Law in 1980. He has been admitted to practice before multiple courts, including the Supreme Court of the State of Idaho, United States District Court for the District of Idaho, District of Arizona, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court. He served as co-counsel on a tax case before the United States Supreme Court in 1990 and holds the prestigious "AV Preeminent" rating from Martindale-Hubbell for legal ability and ethical standards.
Political Experience
Davis served in the Idaho State Senate for 19 years, including as Majority Leader for 15 years, beginning his tenure in 1998 and serving as Majority Leader from 2002 onward. He was a member of the Judiciary and Rules Committee and the State Affairs Committee. He also represented Idaho as a commissioner to the Uniform Law Commission and served as past chairman of The Council of State Governments.
Before his state legislative career, Davis practiced law in Idaho Falls, focusing on commercial, regulatory, and transactional work. He was appointed United States Attorney for the District of Idaho during President Trump's first term, serving from September 21, 2017, to February 28, 2021. He was subsequently nominated by President Trump again on March 31, 2025, confirmed by the U.S. Senate on October 7, 2025, and took the oath of office to return to this position as the top-ranking federal law enforcement official in Idaho.
Davis has received numerous honors, including Idaho Fraternal Order of Police 2016 Legislator of the Year, the 2011 Angel in Adoption Award, and recognition for extraordinary contributions to the administration of justice in Idaho.
