Biography
R. Brad von Gillern is a Republican politician serving as the Nebraska State Senator for District 4, representing parts of Douglas County, including Elkhorn. He was elected to the Nebraska Legislature on November 8, 2022, succeeding Robert Hilkemann.
Born on July 13, 1960, in Lincoln, Nebraska, von Gillern moved to Omaha as an infant. He attended Omaha Public Schools and graduated from Burke High School in 1978. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management Engineering from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.
In 1981, von Gillern married his high school sweetheart, Mary. The couple has four children and six grandchildren. After working in the construction industry across the country, he returned to Omaha in 1991, joining Lueder Construction as a Project Manager. He advanced to Executive Vice President, became President in 2000, and acquired majority ownership in 2006. He served as President and CEO until 2021, when he sold his remaining interest in the company.
Von Gillern is also known for his community involvement, serving in various leadership roles within nonprofit organizations. He is an instrument-rated private pilot, sailor, golfer, and enjoys outdoor activities.
