Charles Ellis Schumer, born on November 23, 1950, in Brooklyn, New York, is a prominent American politician serving as the senior United States Senator from New York. A member of the Democratic Party, Schumer has held this position since 1999. He has been a central figure in the Senate, serving as the Senate Minority Leader from 2017 to 2021, then as the Senate Majority Leader from 2021 to 2025, and returning to the role of Minority Leader in 2025.

Schumer's political career began in the New York State Assembly in 1975, making him the youngest member since Theodore Roosevelt. He later served nine terms in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1981 to 1999.
