Representative Daniel J. Hunt

Daniel J. Hunt is a Democratic member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives representing the 13th Suffolk district, which comprises portions of Boston. A native of Dorchester, Hunt has dedicated his career to public service in Massachusetts, with a particular focus on his home neighborhood.

Hunt has been active in his community through various roles, including mentoring local teens at St. Ann's Parish and serving on the Board of Directors for Harbor Health. He is also the chairman of the Ward 16 Democratic Committee and owns a two-family home in Dorchester. He has two children and a dog named Lucy.

Education

Hunt earned his B.S. in Management from Boston College's Carroll School of Management in 2003. He later obtained his J.D. from Suffolk University Law School in 2011. During his secondary education, he attended St. Ann's and Latin Academy, where he served as student body president.

Political Experience

Hunt was elected to the Massachusetts House of Representatives in 2014, succeeding Marty Walsh. Prior to his election, he held several significant positions in Massachusetts government:

  • Chief of Staff for Representative Daniel E. Bosley
  • Project Analyst at the Massachusetts School Building Authority, where he helped direct public funds to construct new public schools including Orchard Gardens, Mildred Avenue, Brunswick Garden, and the Jeremiah Burke
  • Committee Member on the Legislature's Committee on Economic Development and Emerging Technologies, where he worked with private businesses, state agencies, and organized labor during the Great Recession
  • Director of Governmental Affairs at the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, where he drafted and implemented major legislation and shepherded local infrastructure projects through state and municipal review

He was also an organizer for the John Kerry 2004 presidential campaign.

Currently, Hunt serves as Chairperson of the Joint Committee on Election Laws for the 2025–26 legislative session.
