Biography

Don Beyer, born on June 20, 1950, in Trieste, Italy, is a Democratic politician representing Virginia's 8th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. His district encompasses Arlington, Alexandria, Falls Church, and parts of Fairfax County.

Before his congressional tenure, Beyer served as the 36th Lieutenant Governor of Virginia from 1990 to 1998. In 2009, President Barack Obama appointed him as the U.S. Ambassador to Switzerland and Liechtenstein, a role he held until 2013.

Beyer has also been a prominent business leader, owning and operating several automobile dealerships in Northern Virginia. He has been actively involved in community service, chairing organizations such as Jobs for Virginia Graduates and the Alexandria Community Trust.
