Erin Houchin is a Republican representing Indiana's 9th Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives since January 2023. A native of Southern Indiana born and raised in Scottsburg, she is a mother of three children , married to Dustin since 2002, and resides in Salem, Washington County. As a small business owner of Contend Communications, a PR firm supporting law enforcement, and a community leader, she has held roles such as 9th District Chairwoman of the Indiana Republican Party, Chairman of the Indiana Federation of Republican Women, Vice Chairwoman of the Washington County Republican Party, and Governor’s appointee to the Indiana Commission of Women. Notable achievements include defeating a 26-year Democratic incumbent in 2014 to enter the Indiana State Senate , where she served as Ranking Member of Tax and Fiscal Policy, Assistant Majority Whip , and advanced conservative priorities like protecting the unborn, Second Amendment rights, constitutional carry, balanced budgets, rural broadband expansion, and education improvements. In Congress, she serves on the House Rules, Budget, Energy & Commerce, Education and Workforce, and Financial Services Committees, and has introduced bipartisan bills like the Parkinson’s Protection for Fire Fighters Act of 2025 and dyslexia identification modernization.

Education and Political Experience

  • Education: Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Indiana University; Master’s in Political Management from George Washington University; attended Yale Women’s Campaign School and Indiana Leadership Forum .
  • Political Experience: Southeast Indiana Regional Director for U.S. Senator Dan Coats ; Indiana State Senate on committees including Commerce and Technology, Elections, Family and Children Services, Utilities, Veterans Affairs, Homeland Security, Transportation, Energy, and Tax/Fiscal Policy; U.S. House of Representatives . Early career focused on children's issues at organizations like New Hope Services, Community Alliance Promoting Education, and Indiana Department of Child Services.
