Glenn William "GT" Thompson Jr., born July 27, 1959, is a Republican U.S. Representative for Pennsylvania's 15th congressional district, which he has represented since 2019 after redistricting from the 5th district. A lifelong resident of Howard, Pennsylvania, he previously worked 28 years as a therapist, rehabilitation services manager, and licensed nursing home administrator, advocating for healthcare access and quality. He is an Eagle Scout who received the National Distinguished Eagle Scout Award in 2012, served over 30 years as a volunteer firefighter, and is co-chair of the Congressional Scouting Caucus. Notable positions include Chairman of the House Committee on Agriculture, senior member of the Education & Workforce Committee, co-chair of the Congressional Career and Technical Education Caucus, and co-chair of the Congressional eLearning Caucus. He and his wife, Penny, have three adult sons and two grandsons.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Earned a B.S. from Penn State University and a Master of Education from Temple University.
- Political Experience: First elected to Congress in 2008 for Pennsylvania's 5th district, defeating Democrat Mark McCracken 58%-42%. Served as chairman of the House Agriculture Subcommittee on Forestry, Conservation, and Energy , vice-chairman of the House Agriculture Committee , and ranking member . Elected to the 119th Congress as Agriculture Committee chair.
