Jaime R. Williams, born August 24, 1979, was elected in a special election on April 19, 2016, to represent the 59th Assembly District after Roxanne Persaud's departure to the State Senate; she won with 82.47% of the vote and was seated on May 10, 2016. She has over eight years of experience counseling women and children who are victims of domestic violence, as well as HIV-positive clients with substance abuse histories. Williams has been active in community service, including as a past member of the 69th Precinct Community Council, Mill Basin Civic Association, and Brooklyn Community Board 18; she currently serves in the Canarsie Lions Club. Following Superstorm Sandy, she worked with Catholic Charities on outreach in affected areas like Canarsie and Bergen Beach, and led humanitarian missions to Caribbean countries and Kentucky after its 2021 tornado. Notable positions include Chair of the Committee on Real Property Taxation. Among her achievements, she helped pass legislation fixing the state's School Tax Relief program and introduced early bills on tenant foreclosure notifications and bluefish protections. She organized a 2023 protest against a migrant shelter at Floyd Bennett Field, was the only Democrat in 2024 to vote against overriding congressional redistricting lines, opposed the City of Yes upzoning, and supported Republican Curtis Sliwa in the 2025 NYC mayoral race.
