Jamaal T. Bailey

Jamaal T. Bailey is a Democratic politician from New York who has represented the 36th State Senate District since 2017. His district includes the Bronx neighborhoods of Baychester, Co-op City, Wakefield, Williamsbridge, and Woodlawn, as well as the Westchester County city of Mount Vernon.

Political Experience

Bailey began his political career as an intern to Assemblymember Carl Heastie, later advancing to serve as Heastie's district director. He subsequently worked as a district leader in the 83rd Assembly District for six years before transitioning to higher office.

Bailey was elected to the New York State Senate on November 8, 2016. He has demonstrated strong electoral support, winning re-election in 2018, 2020, 2022, and 2024. In recognition of his political standing within the party, Bailey was elected chair of the Bronx Democratic Party on September 30, 2020.

Notable Positions

Within the State Senate, Bailey serves as Chairman of the Committee on Insurance. He was honored as a 2025 New York State Senate Veterans' Hall of Fame honoree, reflecting his contributions to veteran-related legislative efforts and advocacy.
