Biography
Jared Huffman, born on February 18, 1964, in Independence, Missouri, is a Democratic member of the U.S. House of Representatives, serving California's 2nd Congressional District since 2013. This district encompasses the North Coast of California, stretching from the Golden Gate Bridge to the Oregon border, and includes Marin, Sonoma, Mendocino, Humboldt, Trinity, and Del Norte counties.
Before his tenure in Congress, Huffman served six years in the California State Assembly, representing the 6th district from 2006 to 2012. He chaired the Assembly Water, Parks & Wildlife Committee and the Assembly Environmental Caucus.
Prior to his legislative career, Huffman was a Senior Attorney for the Natural Resources Defense Council , where he played a pivotal role in restoring a 153-mile stretch of the San Joaquin River in California's Central Valley. He also served 12 years on the Marin Municipal Water District board, shaping local water policy and resource management.
An accomplished athlete, Huffman was a three-time NCAA All-American volleyball player at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and played for the USA Volleyball Team in 1987 when the team was ranked #1 in the world.
He resides in San Rafael, California, with his wife Susan, a teacher, and their two children, Abby and Nathan. In his free time, Huffman enjoys fishing, hiking, and playing tennis.
