Javier Mabrey ** represents **Colorado House District 1, encompassing southwestern Denver neighborhoods in Denver and Jefferson counties. Elected to the Colorado State House of Representatives on November 8, 2022, he serves as Chair of the House Judiciary Committee, member of the Business Affairs & Labor Committee, and Committee on Legal Services. Raised by a single mother on social security disability in south Denver, Mabrey experienced housing instability and homelessness, leading him to drop out of high school. He returned to education, working through community college as a dishwasher and pizza delivery driver, earned a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Colorado Boulder, and a Juris Doctor from UC Berkeley School of Law. Post-law school, he co-founded the Community Economic Defense Project in 2020, serving as senior housing attorney, representing thousands facing eviction, and advocating for renters' rights. Notable achievements include passing legislation for rental habitability standards, the Good Cause for Eviction Law , capping EpiPen prices at $60 for a 2-pack, gun violence accountability measures, restrictions on debt collectors and payday lenders, and worker unionization rights. He focuses on housing justice, economic justice, racial justice, healthcare affordability, and gun safety.
