About
Joe Neguse, born on May 13, 1984, in Bakersfield, California, is a Democratic member of the U.S. House of Representatives, serving Colorado's 2nd Congressional District since 2019. He is the first Black member of Congress from Colorado and the first Eritrean-American elected to the U.S. Congress. In March 2024, he was elected as the House Assistant Democratic Leader, becoming the first Coloradan in over 85 years to hold a senior elected leadership role in the House.
Neguse has been recognized for his bipartisan approach, ranking 18th in the House and first in Colorado for bipartisanship in 2023. He has also been acknowledged as one of the most effective lawmakers, with 22 pieces of legislation signed into law by presidents of both political parties.
