John T. Lastinger, Jr.

John Thomas Lastinger is a Republican member of the South Carolina House of Representatives, representing District 88 in Lexington County. He was born and raised in Lexington County and has maintained deep roots in the community throughout his life.

Lastinger has been married for 50 years and has two sons, two daughters-in-law, and six grandchildren, all of whom live and work in Lexington County. He is known for his conservative Christian values and commitment to community service.

Political Experience

Lastinger took office on January 6, 2026, after winning a special election to replace former Representative RJ May. He received 1,672 votes in the election, defeating Democrat Chuck Hightower, who received 1,010 votes. He represents a portion of eastern Lexington County that covers the areas of Pine Ridge and South Congaree.

His political positions include strong support for Second Amendment rights, pro-life policies, and family-centered education initiatives. He has been actively involved in civic engagement, speaking on education and community issues and participating in local boards and church-based programs.

Rather than traditional elected office experience, Lastinger brings 47 years of pastoral and community leadership. He has served as pastor of The Edge Church in Springdale for nearly five decades, where he has led congregation activities, community outreach, and local charitable initiatives. Through this role, he has walked alongside families through life's challenges and celebrations, giving him a unique perspective on community needs.
