Biography

Thomas Jonathan "Jon" Ossoff, born on February 16, 1987, in Atlanta, Georgia, is a Democratic politician serving as the senior United States Senator from Georgia since January 20, 2021. At 33, he became the youngest Democrat elected to the Senate since Joe Biden in 1972. Prior to his Senate tenure, Ossoff was the managing director and CEO of Insight TWI, a London-based investigative television production company. His work focused on exposing corruption and human rights violations, including producing documentaries on ISIS war crimes and human trafficking.

Education and Political Experience

  • Education:

    • Bachelor of Science from Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service
    • Master of Science from the London School of Economics and Political Science
  • Political Experience:

    • Legislative Assistant for U.S. Representative Hank Johnson
    • Democratic nominee for Georgia's 6th congressional district special election
    • Elected U.S. Senator from Georgia

Notable Achievements

  • In his first two years in the Senate, Ossoff passed more standalone bills into law than any other freshman senator, focusing on mental health services, public safety, and veterans' care.
  • Led bipartisan investigations exposing mistreatment in military housing and federal prisons.
  • Advocated for the restoration of accreditation to Robert Morris College, a historically Black institution in Georgia.
  • Introduced legislation to prohibit members of Congress and their spouses from trading stocks in public companies.

Ossoff continues to balance sharp criticism of former President Donald Trump with bipartisan cooperation, particularly in advocating for Georgia's agriculture and military sectors.
