Kevin Parker is a Democratic and Working Families Party member of the New York State Senate, representing District 21 in Brooklyn, which includes neighborhoods such as Flatbush, East Flatbush, Kensington, Ditmas Park, Midwood, Flatlands, Canarsie, Georgetown, Old Mill Basin, Mill Basin, Bergen Beach, and Marine Park. First elected in 2002, he has served over 20 years, passing over 70 bills and earning recognition as the most prolific legislator in the New York State Senate; as of March 2026, he is the Senate's senior assistant majority leader and Chairman of the Committee on Energy and Telecommunications. Notable achievements include sponsoring legislation in 2020 to recognize racism as a public health crisis, re-introducing a 2021 bill requiring NYPD members to live in the five boroughs, and receiving 2025 honors as a Women of Distinction and New York State Senate Veterans' Hall of Fame honoree.
Education and Political Experience
Parker grew up in NYCHA housing and attended New York City public schools; he worked in finance at UBS PaineWebber and in intergovernmental affairs at the New York State Comptroller’s office, and co-chaired Hillary Clinton's U.S. Senate campaign. Prior to his Senate tenure, he ran unsuccessfully in the 2001 Democratic primary for New York City Council District 45 and in Democratic primaries for New York City Comptroller in 2021 and 2025. He won reelection in the 2022 Democratic primary for District 21.
