Marc Berman is a Democratic Assemblymember representing California's 23rd Assembly District, which spans southern San Mateo County and northern Santa Clara County, including parts of the San Francisco Peninsula and Silicon Valley such as Campbell, Mountain View, Palo Alto, and Saratoga. Born on October 31, 1980, he has served in the California State Assembly since 2016, following his election in November of that year, and won re-election in 2024 with 59.8% of the vote. Notable achievements include authoring legislation to ban sales of new gas-powered small engines like leaf blowers starting in 2024, making California a permanent vote-by-mail state, reforming college transfer processes, phasing out gas-powered landscape equipment, cracking down on political deepfakes, establishing firearm violence prevention training for physicians, and creating a Sexual Assault Survivors’ Bill of Rights; he has sent 107 bills to the Governor in his first nine years, with 101 signed into law. He advocates pro-housing policies to address California's housing shortage and holds leadership roles such as Chair of the Assembly Business and Professions Committee , Chair of the Select Committee on the Master Plan for Higher Education in California, and member of committees including Elections, Insurance, Governmental Organization, Legislative Ethics, Select Committee on Cybersecurity, and Select Committee on Electric Vehicles and Charging Infrastructure.

Education and Political Experience

Berman graduated from Georgetown University and earned a law degree from the *University of Southern California *; he worked as a lawyer at Latham & Watkins before entering politics. His political career began on the Palo Alto City Council prior to his Assembly tenure, and he previously chaired the Assembly Elections Committee and the Assembly Select Committee on the Census.
