Biography
Marie Newman is an American politician and social justice activist who served as the U.S. Representative for Illinois's 3rd congressional district from 2021 to 2023. Born on April 13, 1964, in Evergreen Park, Illinois, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in journalism and business from the University of Wisconsin. Before entering politics, Newman had a successful career in marketing and advertising, eventually founding her own consulting firm. She is married to Jim Newman, and they have two children. Newman resides in La Grange, Illinois.

- Elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2020, representing Illinois's 3rd congressional district.
- Served on the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, including the Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials, and the Subcommittee on Highways and Transit.
- Served on the House Committee on Small Business, including the Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Tax, and Capital Access, the Subcommittee on Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Workforce Development, and the Subcommittee on Contracting and Infrastructure.
- Advocated for LGBTQ+ rights, including support for the Equality Act.
- Served as a spokesperson for Moms Demand Action Illinois, advocating for gun law reform.
- Founded the nonprofit organization Team Up to Stop Bullying in 2011.
- Authored the book "A Life Made from Scratch: Lessons from a Controversial Congresswoman, Mompreneur, and Unstoppable Political Activist," published in 2025.
In April 2023, Newman was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Little City Foundation, a social services organization serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in northern Illinois.
