Representative Mary S. Keefe
Mary S. Keefe is a Democratic state legislator representing the 15th Worcester District in the Massachusetts House of Representatives. A lifelong resident of Massachusetts originally from the town of Sutton, she has lived in downtown Worcester for more than thirty years. She is deeply rooted in neighborhood life and community work, serving as a longtime neighborhood leader and advocate for democracy and public engagement.
Political Experience
Keefe was first elected to the Massachusetts House of Representatives in 2012 and was re-elected in 2022 to serve a sixth term. Since 2018, she has run unopposed in both Democratic primary and general elections.
Prior to her election as a state representative, Keefe served as Executive Director of the Pleasant Street Neighborhood Network Center for twelve years. This grassroots, resident-led organization focused on issues affecting working families, immigrants, business leaders, churches, and institutions in the Piedmont area of Worcester's 15th District.
Notable Achievements and Positions
Keefe has established a strong record of progressive legislation and advocacy. She was a lead sponsor of the Criminal Justice Reform Act and a lead sponsor of the Student Opportunity Act . She currently serves as House Co-chair for the Legislature's Criminal Justice Reform Caucus and as Vice Chair for the Joint Committee on Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure. She is also a member of the Joint Committee on Agriculture, Joint Committee on State Administration and Regulatory Oversight, and Joint Committee on Tourism, Arts and Cultural Development.
Her policy priorities encompass criminal justice reform, education, affordable housing, fair labor and wage practices, arts and culture, and environmental justice. She is a founding member of the Progressive Democrats of Massachusetts and holds affiliations including co-chair of Worcester Interfaith, board member of the Green Hill Park Coalition, and founding member of the Worcester Community Labor Coalition.
