Biography
Representative Mike Thompson, born on January 24, 1951, in St. Helena, California, is a Democratic member of the U.S. House of Representatives, serving California's 4th Congressional District since 2023. The district encompasses all of Napa and Lake Counties and parts of Solano, Sonoma, and Yolo Counties. Prior to his current role, Thompson represented California's 1st District from 1999 to 2013 and the 5th District from 2013 to 2023. Before his tenure in Congress, he served in the California State Senate from 1991 to 1998, where he chaired the Budget Committee.
A Vietnam War veteran, Thompson served as a staff sergeant and platoon leader with the U.S. Army's 173rd Airborne Brigade, earning a Purple Heart for wounds sustained in combat. He is married to Janet Thompson, a family nurse practitioner, and they have two sons and three granddaughters.

As Chair of the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, he led efforts to pass the Bipartisan Background Checks Act. ,
