Biography
Rosa Luisa DeLauro, born on March 2, 1943, in New Haven, Connecticut, is a dedicated public servant representing Connecticut's 3rd Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. Raised in an Italian-American family, she was inspired by her parents' commitment to community service. Her mother, Luisa DeLauro, served as a New Haven alderwoman, and her father, Theodore DeLauro, was an Italian immigrant.
DeLauro's political career began with roles such as Executive Director of EMILY's List and Chief of Staff to U.S. Senator Christopher Dodd. In 1990, she was elected to Congress and has since been a steadfast advocate for working families, focusing on issues like education, healthcare, and economic equity.
