Representative Russ Fulcher

Russell Mark Fulcher was born on March 9, 1962, and is a fourth-generation Idahoan who grew up on a dairy farm in Meridian, Idaho. He is a member of the Republican Party and has been serving as the U.S. representative for Idaho's 1st congressional district since January 2019. He is also a member of the Freedom Caucus.

Education

Fulcher graduated from Meridian High School and earned both a Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree in business from Boise State University. He also obtained additional certifications in electronic engineering.

Political Experience

Before entering federal politics, Fulcher spent 24 years in the high-technology industry, working for Micron Technology and Preco Electronics. During this time, he conducted business in 60 countries around the world and in every state in America.

Fulcher served in the Idaho Senate for 10 years, from 2005 to 2014, representing the 21st district and the 22nd district . During his tenure, he served as Majority Caucus Chair for six years. His signature legislative achievement was Idaho's grocery tax credit, which has returned approximately $800 million to Idaho families and constitutes one of the largest tax cuts in the state's history. In the state senate, he served on the State Affairs and Education Committees.

In 2014, Fulcher ran for governor of Idaho but was unsuccessful in the Republican primary against incumbent Butch Otter. He was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2018, succeeding Raúl Labrador, who retired to pursue a gubernatorial campaign.

In Congress, Fulcher currently serves on the House Committee on Energy and Commerce and the House Committee on Natural Resources. He previously served on the House Committee on Education and the Workforce.
