Scott Wiener is a Democratic State Senator representing California's 11th District, which includes San Francisco, Broadmoor, Colma, Daly City, and parts of South San Francisco and northern San Mateo County. Elected in 2016 and reelected in 2020, he has authored over 100 laws focusing on housing affordability, transportation, civil rights, criminal justice reform, clean energy, healthcare access, and poverty alleviation. Notable achievements include landmark housing bills like SB 35 and SB 423 to expedite permits for affordable homes, SB 4 allowing faith institutions and nonprofits to build affordable housing by-right, SB 79 promoting multifamily homes near transit, and criminal justice reforms such as SB 923 modernizing eyewitness identification and SB 136 reducing mass incarceration. He currently chairs the Senate Elections Committee and Senate Housing Committee, co-chairs the California Legislative Jewish Caucus, and is past chair of the California Legislative LGBTQ Caucus. Previously, on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors , he represented the district once held by Harvey Milk, authored first-in-nation laws mandating fully paid parental leave and requiring water recycling/solar power in new developments, and chaired the San Francisco County Transportation Authority.

- Education: Bachelor's degree from Duke University; J.D. from Harvard Law School; Fulbright Scholar in Santiago, Chile.
- Early Career: Born in New Jersey, practiced law for 15 years, including as a law clerk for the New Jersey Supreme Court, in private practice, and nearly a decade as Deputy City Attorney in San Francisco. Community roles included co-chair of the San Francisco LGBT Community Center and national board member of the Human Rights Campaign. Has lived in San Francisco's Castro neighborhood since 1997.
