Biography
Shri Thanedar, born on February 22, 1955, in Chikodi, Karnataka, India, is a Democratic U.S. Representative serving Michigan's 13th Congressional District, which encompasses much of Wayne County, including Detroit, Grosse Pointe, and Downriver. He immigrated to the United States in 1979 to pursue higher education and became a U.S. citizen in 1988. Before entering politics, Thanedar was a successful entrepreneur in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries. He founded and led several companies, including Chemir Analytical Services and Avomeen Analytical Services, contributing to the development of life-saving pharmaceutical drugs. His business acumen earned him the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award in 1999, 2007, and 2016.

In the Michigan House of Representatives, Thanedar played a pivotal role in passing the largest increase in per-pupil funding for Michigan public schools in state history. As a U.S. Representative, he serves on the Committee on Homeland Security and the Committee on Small Business. In April 2025, Thanedar filed multiple articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump, citing charges including usurpation of Congress's appropriation powers, obstruction of justice, abuse of power, bribery, and corruption.
