Steve Bennett is a Democratic member of the California State Assembly representing District 38 . Born December 31, 1950, he is a former high school economics and American history teacher, activist, and environmental advocate. Notable achievements include protecting Ventura County's open spaces and agricultural land from urban sprawl, bringing fiscal discipline and balanced budgets as Ventura County Supervisor , and advocating in the Assembly for reining in environmentally harmful water use and addressing climate change. He serves on key committees such as Budget, Elections, Emergency Management, Water, Parks, and Wildlife, chairs the Subcommittee on Climate Crisis, Resources, Energy, and Transportation, and is a member of the California Legislative Progressive Caucus. Elected to the Assembly in 2020, he recently had AB 367 signed into law by Governor Gavin Newsom.
