Biography
Ted W. Lieu is a Democratic member of the U.S. House of Representatives, serving California's 36th Congressional District since January 3, 2023. He was born on March 29, 1969, in Taipei, Taiwan, and immigrated to the United States with his family at the age of three, settling in Cleveland, Ohio. Lieu is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served on active duty and in the Reserves, retiring in 2021 with the rank of Colonel. He is married to Betty Lieu, a former California Deputy Attorney General and current member of the Torrance Board of Education; they have two sons, Brennan and Austin.
Education
- Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Stanford University, 1991.
- Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, from Georgetown University Law Center, 1994; served as Editor-in-Chief of the Georgetown Law Journal.
