Biography

Veronica Escobar, born on September 15, 1969, in El Paso, Texas, is a third-generation El Pasoan and a dedicated public servant. She made history in 2019 as one of the first two Latinas from Texas elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, representing Texas' 16th Congressional District. Prior to her congressional tenure, Escobar served as El Paso County Commissioner from 2006 to 2010 and as County Judge from 2011 to 2017. Her early career includes roles as an English and Chicano literature instructor at the University of Texas at El Paso and El Paso Community College, as well as serving as Communications Director for former El Paso Mayor Raymond Caballero.
