Biography

Dan Sullivan, born on November 13, 1964, in Fairview Park, Ohio, is a Republican politician serving as the junior United States Senator from Alaska since January 3, 2015. He was re-elected in 2020. Prior to his tenure in the Senate, Sullivan held positions as Alaska's Attorney General from 2009 to 2010 and Commissioner of the Alaska Department of Natural Resources from 2010 to 2013. He also served as the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Economic, Energy, and Business Affairs under Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice from 2006 to 2009.

Sullivan has a distinguished military career, serving over 30 years in the United States Marine Corps, both on active duty and in the reserves, retiring as a Colonel in early 2024. His service included deployments to the Middle East, Afghanistan, and the Taiwan Strait.

In the Senate, Sullivan serves on several key committees, including the Armed Services Committee, the Environment and Public Works Committee, the Veterans' Affairs Committee, and the Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee. He also chairs the International Republican Institute.
