Biography

John Neely Kennedy, born on November 21, 1951, in Centreville, Mississippi, is a Republican U.S. Senator representing Louisiana. He was first elected to the Senate in 2016 and re-elected in 2022. Prior to his tenure in the Senate, Kennedy served as the Louisiana State Treasurer from 2000 to 2017, overseeing the state's multi-billion-dollar investment portfolios and returning millions of dollars in unclaimed property each year. He also held positions as Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Revenue and as special counsel to Governor Buddy Roemer. Kennedy is known for his conservative stance and commitment to fiscal responsibility.
