Biography
Amy Jean Klobuchar was born on May 25, 1960, in Plymouth, Minnesota. She is the daughter of Jim Klobuchar, a columnist for the Star Tribune, and Rose Klobuchar, an elementary school teacher. Klobuchar was the valedictorian of her class at Wayzata High School.
In 1993, she married John Bessler, a private practice attorney and professor at the University of Baltimore School of Law. They have one daughter, Abigail.
Education
- Yale University: Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, magna cum laude, 1982.
- University of Chicago Law School: Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, 1985.
Political Experience
- Hennepin County Attorney: Elected in 1998, Klobuchar served as the chief prosecutor for Minnesota's most populous county, focusing on violent crime and white-collar crime.
- U.S. Senator from Minnesota: First elected in 2006, Klobuchar became the first woman to represent Minnesota in the U.S. Senate. She was reelected in 2012, 2018, and 2024.
