Biography
Jane Michele Raybould, born on November 1, 1958, in Lincoln, Nebraska, is a Democratic member of the Nebraska Legislature representing District 28. She assumed office on January 4, 2023, succeeding Patty Pansing Brooks. Raybould has a diverse background in both business and public service. She serves as Vice President and Director of Buildings and Equipment at B&R Stores, her family's employee-owned grocery business, where she oversees capital investments, real estate developments, remodels, construction, and property management.
In her political career, Raybould has held several significant positions. She served as a Lancaster County Commissioner from 2010 to 2014 and was a member of the Lincoln City Council from 2015 until her election to the state legislature in 2022. In 2014, she was the Democratic nominee for Lieutenant Governor of Nebraska, running alongside gubernatorial candidate Chuck Hassebrook. Although they were not elected, Raybould continued her political pursuits. In 2018, she ran for the U.S. Senate as the Democratic nominee but was unsuccessful in her bid against incumbent Senator Deb Fischer.
