Biography

Dan Quick, born on December 29, 1957, in Grand Island, Nebraska, is a Democratic politician representing District 35 in the Nebraska Legislature. He was first elected to the Legislature in 2016, serving from 2017 to 2021. After a brief hiatus, he was re-elected in 2024 and began his current term on January 8, 2025.

Raised on a family farm near Hordville, Nebraska, Quick graduated from Hordville High School in 1976. He and his wife, Alice, a registered nurse, have lived in Grand Island since April 1980. Together, they have three children and nine grandchildren.

Before entering politics, Quick worked at the City of Grand Island's Power Plant for 28 years, starting as a material handler and later becoming a maintenance mechanic and welder. He also served as President and Business Manager of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1597 and as President of the Nebraska State Utility Workers Conference.

Education and Political Experience

  • Education: Graduated from Hordville High School in 1976.

  • Political Experience:

    • Elected to the Nebraska Legislature representing District 35 in 2016; served from 2017 to 2021.
    • Re-elected in 2024; began current term on January 8, 2025.
    • Served on the Banking, Commerce, and Insurance, General Affairs, Natural Resources, and Urban Affairs committees.
    • Appointed to committees addressing conditions in assisted living facilities for residents with mental health issues, the Economic Development Task Force, and the Juvenile Interstate Compact.
    • Elected to the Central Community College Board of Governors in 2022.
    • Served on the Board of Directors for the Heartland United Way and the Nebraska Alliance for Child Advocacy Centers.

Throughout his career, Quick has focused on issues such as expanding early childhood education, protecting children from tobacco and vaping products, combating human trafficking, and addressing vacant and abandoned properties in communities.
