Biography
Richard Blumenthal, born on February 13, 1946, in New York City, is a Democratic politician serving as the senior United States Senator from Connecticut since 2011. Prior to his tenure in the Senate, he was the 23rd Attorney General of Connecticut from 1991 to 2011. Blumenthal has been a prominent advocate for consumer protection, environmental issues, and veterans' affairs. He is known for his work on antitrust enforcement and his efforts to combat tobacco use and internet crimes against children. As of 2025, he serves as the Ranking Member of the Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee.
